Math leads in NAT 2014

Popularly known as a very difficult subject, very satisfactory results of the 2014 National

Achievement Test (NAT) surprised teachers and students of San Jose National High School. From

being one of the lowest in the past years (44.48% - SY 2012-2013) when it comes to NAT, they

now rank 1 (62.69% - Regular Class & 79.97 % - STEP Class).

Mathematics Department Chairman Mrs. Myra Villareal said that it is really a great accomplishment on

their part to see that their students truly learned from them.

“Siyempre, Super Masaya. Ano pa ba!? For the first time, natalo ng Math ang Filipino, AP at iba pang

subjects,” said Mrs. Villareal laughing when asked about her reaction as the Department Head.

“Dati kasi, Math and Science ang palaging mabababa, kung baga nagpapalitan lang sila,” she added.

Last year, all students were required to answer a reviewer that was given by the department. The said

reviewers served as their preparation for the NAT, refreshing them of the topics that were discussed over the

past grading periods. These questions are competency-based intended to familiarize students with the type

of queries that they will be encountering in NAT. This test requires solu¬tions and explanations for all the

problems presented.

Mrs. Villareal also said that the STEP students last year are really STEP students, based on their NAT

results. Reaching their goal – to achieve the mastery level, 75% above.

She also explained that since the reviewers were proven effective last year, that’s why they are still

being implemented this year. “We’ll see, kung ano ang magiging results ng NAT ng batch ngayon,” said Mrs.
